Who is Earl Okin? A question many have asked and been none the wiser when answered!
Self-styled as a ‘Jazz Cabaret Artiste’, Earl is so much more - Singer, Songwriter, Finest Performer of Bossa Nova outside of Brazil, Legendary ‘Mouth-Trumpeter’, Highly Skilled Pianist and Guitarist, Comedian and Humourist, Broadcaster and Podcaster, Composer, National Treasure, Raconteur, Philosopher, Former-Schoolmaster, Sex-symbol, Owner of absolutely no casual clothing whatsoever and wearer of Spats……..and that barely scratches the surface!
Active since the 1960s, he’s toured with Paul McCartney and Wings, performed alongside the likes of Billy Connolly, TV appearances with Michael Parkinson and The Two Ronnies, performed for royalty, successfully took his one-man-show to Edinburgh Fringe for 18 consecutive years, travelled internationally plying his craft and met/worked with just about everyone who’s anyone! He’s also long-time regular at legendary London jazz club Ronnie Scott’s.
Earl is unsure who would play him in a movie about his life, now that Carey Grant is gone, but there is a forthcoming documentary about his illustrious career which you can see clips of here:
YouTube - Who Is Earl Okin (Extended)
His original songs have been recorded by Cilla Black, Helen Shapiro, Georgie Fame and even some bloke called Bing Crosby (almost – he sadly passed away just a few days before a scheduled session to record Earl’s song ‘I Belong’).
Now, with over 50 years of showmanship under his belt, he is still wowing fans old and new alike, to the same high standards he’s been known for across the decades.
As ever, from his shows you can expect a bit of jazz, a bit of bossa nova, some original songs, a healthy dollop of comedy and side-splitting autobiographical stories, and plenty of surprises!
