The
Little Big Band Plays is a homage to and celebration
of big band legends Count Basie and Duke Ellington. But
there’s a twist. Despite the album being a salute to two pianists,
Nette Robinson’s outfit includes no piano. In fact there are no
chordal instruments to be found in the Little Big Band. The result:
a great sense of space and musical freedom.

Taking
their name from an old nightclub in Chester, QUAINTWAYS were formed with
Northern Soul ringing in their ears.
Their
musical style has drawn comparisons to the Stone Roses, The La's, The Cure
and the Kinks. Their songs are future classics, and importantly get people
dancing at live shows. All good music can be labelled as Soul music
because it comes from the Soul, which is exactly where QUAINTWAYS come
from.

Grand Majestic 8pm
 |
The Grand Majestic are a top funk-inspired
pop band hailing from Brighton town. Combining the thrill of feel-good
power pop with the swagger of funk, they have entertained packed venues
throughout the country and risen quickly to the top of the south-coast
music scene.
Fully-equipped to get the party started, the 8-piece group know just how
to deliver a catchy pop hook stacked on top of a driving funky groove. TGM
melodically stand up to many of todays mainstream pop artists yet give a
firm tip of the hat to the old funk maestros we all know and love. In turn
finding a modern sound that is unique to themselves.
With a horn section packing more power than an artillery division, The
Grand Majestic have more solos than an Italian opera and more pop power
than a rocket-propelled disco ball. |

Bedroom
CityHeart warming music; whether more
upbeat or slow and calm, that's a great way to describe Bedroom City's,
(the 17 year old Adam Gordon's) music. Drawing influences from mainly the
pop rock genre, but combining it with the day-dreamy ambient sound,
Bedroom City's music could change anybody's mood.
'Feeling slightly U2 influenced it has great guitar sounds particularly
in the impressive opening which sets the standard for both songs.' The

Brighton band The
Blue Hearts are back with a new album "Jukebox

rock and roll with the sexual intimacy of a downtown late night speakeasy.
Featuring pop tunes, hard rock rhythms and provocative lyrics mixed with
ethereal harmonies, electric violin and a whirlwind of guitar driven
crashing surf ambience.

Derriere delivers a
playfully raunchy mix of old school rock and roll, vintage soul,
rockabilly and jumpin’ rhythm n blues. Combining the devastating double
bass playing of Blood Sugar Hill,
wailing blues guitar of T Bone LeRhone
with magic fingers Matt Gest pounding
the keys. The formidable horn section features the thundering trombone of Gram
Canyon, and reed bending saxophonist Rosie
Cheeks ... All underpinned by the booty shaking rhythms of Redhand
Mallon, at one time one of the most feared sticksmen in
Portslade!! At the forefront of this collection of raw, soulful, hipsters
are the brassiere busting vocals of fireball front-woman Gloria
Stittes, whose voice will strip you naked, box you soundly
about the ears, then throw you back out on the street where you belong.
Ready your hips and open your heart – Derriere will take you from
behind!
It should also be mentioned that members of this accomplished rabble have
made several appearances on Mark Lamarr’s Radio 2 show, performed at
major UK and European festivals, and released records that have been
played on Radio 1 and BBC 1... |
